Gold on Black: A Lititz Bathroom With Opinions

Lititz clients come with vision boards, and this one arrived fully formed: black fluted cabinetry, brushed gold everything, and absolutely no gray. Our job was to make the drama permanent instead of trendy, which is a real engineering question, not just taste.
How to be bold without being sorry
The rule we use: put the drama in things that unscrew. Faucets, hardware, mirrors and lights can change in an afternoon five years from now. Keep the things that demo, tile and tubs, in classic materials. Here the tile stayed timeless while the vanity and gold package carried the personality, so a future style change costs hundreds, not ten thousand.
Gold finish quality varies wildly. We steer clients toward PVD finishes, which bond the color at a molecular level and shrug off Pennsylvania hard water. Cheap plated gold starts wearing at the handle within a year, and there is no fixing it.
